Interpretation of Soil Test Results (Lawn & Garden)

The Interpretation of Soil Test Results section of your Soil Test report focuses on four of the basic test results (pH, Organic Matter, Phosphorus, Potassium) and represents them in graphical format. The bar graphs use red, green and yellow colors to fill the bar up to the level of the item. Words above provide the status of the sample based on what you intend to grow, refer to the example below. 

Interpretation of Results


In this example the pH is 5.6, which is slightly acidic for growing a vegetable garden. That value may be optimum for growing turf or blueberries. 

The amount of soil organic matter is one of the main factors determining nitrogen fertilizer recommendations for many plants. The higher the organic matter, the lower the nitrogen recommendation. This is because decomposition of organic matter and subsequent release of plant-available nitrogen is a significant source of this nutrient for plants.
