The tests provided here are for evaluating soil fertility, pH level, and/or problems due to excessive salts or fertilizer materials. Based on the test results and type of plants to be grown, you will be sent the appropriate fertilizer recommendation for good plant growth without adverse effects on the environment. 

How to Submit Samples for Analysis

  1. Follow the instructions for collecting soil samples linked on the right side of the page.
  2. Place sample (2-3 cups) in a tightly sealed container or bag (like a clean, disposable food container or bag)
  3. Download & print the the Professional Turf Management Analysis Request sheet form located on the right side of this page.
  4. Enclose a check payable to the University of Minnesota for all services requested. Prices are listed on the form. Do NOT send cash - we cannot be responsible for cash sent through the mail. 
  5. Send the soil sample(s), payment, and request sheet to:

    You may drop off samples in our drop box located on the north side of the building. Drop off parking is available for up to 20 minutes next to the curb in front of the Dudley Ave. entrance of the Crops Research building. See Contact Us for directions.

Due to limited storage space, soil samples are kept for three months, then discarded.
